Disclaimer
What this site is, and what it is not
TL TALK RADIO publishes journalism for general information. We report what happened, who said it, and where the document came from. Nobody reads a disclaimer for pleasure, and we have not tried to make this one enjoyable, but the distinction it draws is one our readers act on, so it is worth setting out properly.
Nothing here is professional advice. A story about a court ruling is not legal advice about your case. A story about a new rule is not guidance about your particular situation, your employer or your paperwork. Coverage of a health study is not a diagnosis or a treatment plan, and a report about a company or a market is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything.
News changes fast, and so do stories
Much of what we publish is about events still in motion. A breaking story is a first draft written under time pressure with the facts that were available at the time. Early figures get revised, official statements are corrected, and an account that was accurate at nine in the morning can be overtaken by ten. We update stories as the picture changes, and our corrections policy explains how we mark those updates and how we fix genuine errors.
The practical consequence is simple. Check the date and time on a story before you rely on it, and treat a developing story as exactly that. If a decision of yours turns on a fact in one of our reports, confirm that fact against the primary source before you act. How we verify claims before publication is described in our fact-checking policy, and that effort does not transfer the risk of your own decisions onto us.
Get professional advice for anything that matters
For a legal problem, see a qualified lawyer in your jurisdiction. For a medical concern, speak to a doctor or a pharmacist rather than a headline. For anything to do with money, tax, investing or insurance, consult a licensed professional who knows your circumstances. General reporting cannot know your file, and it is no substitute for advice from someone who does. If a story could be read as suggesting a specific course of action, read it as reporting, not as instruction.
External links and third-party material
We link out constantly, to sources, official documents, studies and further reading, because showing our working is part of the job. Those destinations belong to other people. We do not control them, we do not vouch for everything on them, and a link is not an endorsement. Once you follow one, you are on someone else’s site under someone else’s terms.
The same applies to quotes and material we attribute to others. When we report that an official, a company or a study said a thing, we are reporting the claim accurately, which is not the same as certifying that the claim is true. Where we know a claim is disputed, we say so.
Opinion, analysis and forward-looking statements
Some of what we publish is clearly opinion or analysis, and it is labelled so you can tell it from straight reporting. Opinion is the honest view of its writer at the time of writing, offered as argument rather than fact, and reasonable people will disagree with it. Any statement about what might happen next is a projection, not a promise, and the future has a habit of ignoring projections.
